Past WiE Events

On 28 August, the AMEU Women in Electricity (WiE) Conference lit up the Bloemhof Electricity Head Office in Cape Town. The event drew a vibrant crowd from all over the country - well beyond the 150 participants expected.

The day delivered energy and inspiration through interactive sessions, powerful panels, a factory tour, and even a few surprises. Outgoing Chairperson Ms. Sheila MaKhumalo Cele closed the event by affirming WiE’s commitment to empowering women across the energy sector.

The afternoon featured a guided factory tour at Jocastro Factory focusing on mini substations ,switchgears, metering units and transformer manufacturing processes. This hands-on experience provided practical insights into production techniques and safety standards, complementing the theoretical sessions.

AMEU WiE General Meeting - 08 May 2025

At the recent Women in Electricity General Meeting, held on 08 May we had the following five speakers presenting:

Ms. Fenni Shidhika from SASSCAL (Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management),presented on the JCOI Green Hydrogen Pilot Projects in Namibia.

Mr Kiran Randchhod from Eskom sharing on Distribution Demand Management Program and Standard Offer
Ms Ayesha Hardien from Eskom presenting on Virtual Wheeling
Ms Qhakazile Mathebula- presented on City Power’s turnaround strategy.
Ms Neo Mapapanyane, the Chairperson from CigreSA, Women in Energy.

AMEU WiE General Meeting - 19 March 2025

•Stellenbosch Business School Presentation:

Refiloe Peu and Thorisha Pillay from Stellenbosch Business School presented the Women in Leadership Programme,

•Cybersecurity in Electric Power Utilities:

Kholofelo Halefose, Cybersecurity Senior Advisor at Eskom, National Transmission Company South Africa (NTCSA), Telecommunications. (NMC) focusing on OT Cybersecurity.

Kholofelo encouraged participation in CIGRE study committees and working groups to contribute to the development of cybersecurity standards and policies for the electric power sector. Presentation

As part of their Training and Development Pillar and to enhance their technical skills. The WiE crew kick started the Month of November with factory tour, which took place on the 1st November 2022 at LH Marthinusen in Johannesburg.
