AMEU Women in Electricity (WiE), in commemoration of National Women’s Day, celebrated the Woman’s month in a form of a mini conference on the 31st of August 2023 at Conlog Premises in Durban, 10 Mzimkhulu Drive, Dube Trade Port, La Mercy.


The conference under the theme: How to Deepen Your Well of Resilience in managing your thought processes, emotions, and your presence in the male dominant industry?  highlighted the achievements, contributions, and experiences of women in the electrical/electronic engineering field.

The main speakers;
1.  Ms. Zinhle Mbatha who is a seasoned entrepreneur, imparted her knowledge and spoke to us on how to develop emotional intelligence skills, and inspiring us and as well as nurturing of new ideas and
2. Ms. Bhavna Soni, the Executive head at eThekwini municipality, shared her experience and the engineering background, and how she has managed to be level-headed and resilient in the male dominated industry.

 

The day started with the site viewing and the technical tour that was guided by Conlog.

 

The formal sessions started with the honorary presentation and awarding of former Chairpersons of WiE, as well as Female Presidents of the AMEU, the award presentations was facilitated by the current Chairperson of WiE Ms. Lomile Modiselle. The members honoured were Ms. Punkie Majola, Ms. Refilwe Mokgosi, Ms. Sy Gourrah and Ms. Jayshree Pershad. WiE believes that these women’s leadership and dedication has been instrumental in shaping the trajectory of the organization and the industry, and their accomplishments have paved the way for women aspiring to thrive in the electricity sector.
